Technical Web Manager (Maternity Cover)
London
Fixed-term
Full-time
£46,471–£51,606 / year
Closes 23 Oct 2026
We're looking for a technically minded Technical Web Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day technical support, performance and continuous improvement of our website and microsites.
You'll work closely with our Product Manager, developers, content teams, IT, security colleagues and external platform and development partners to ensure our website is stable, secure, performs well and continually evolves.
You'll be the go-to person for complex CMS and website issues, helping to troubleshoot problems, help manage releases, support testing and ensure technical changes are delivered smoothly into production.
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical understanding of web platforms (preferably Drupal) with excellent organisation, communication and problem-solving skills and has attention to detail. You'll be comfortable working across technical and non-technical teams and translating complex technical issues into clear information for colleagues.
You'll ideally have experience of:
- Managing and supporting websites and CMSs, preferably in a technically complex environment
- Performing detailed UAT for technical developments
- Working with development teams, external suppliers and platform providers
- Reporting and troubleshooting bugs
- Using JIRA for raising tickets, backlog and change management
- Working within Agile development environments
- Troubleshooting website issues, APIs and third-party integrations
- Working with colleagues in different time zones (this means an early start on release day)
- HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Supporting website deployments and release documentation
- Understanding web performance, security certifications, permissions and integrations
- CDNs and WAFs
- Cloud technology
- Keeping a wiki up to date in Confluence
- Providing second-line technical support and helping others understand complex systems
You'll be proactive and naturally curious, with a strong "find the problem and fix it" mindset. You'll be confident challenging technical decisions when needed, while building positive relationships with developers, suppliers and colleagues across the University. You'll support the team with prioritisation of issues and will own and be on top of the bugs list.
You'll be joining a small but friendly team with helpful colleagues based around the world.
UEL is an inclusive equal opportunities employer and is proud of our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion achievements. We're a disability confident employer and value all applications. Please let us know if you require any reasonable accommodations throughout the recruitment process.
