The Educational Engagement Team works with students aged 11-19 on inspirational, fun and interactive outreach activities to raise awareness of, and aspirations towards higher education. Our events and projects are designed to give students a greater insight into higher education, making university-level study accessible and desirable to school and college students from groups who are under-represented at university. The Student Success Team works with current students to support them to thrive during their time at Leeds and beyond. Our events and projects are designed to improve students' sense of belonging, connect students with opportunities across the university, and remove barriers to student success.
As an Educational Engagement Student Ambassador, you will work as part of a highly motivated, professional team to deliver presentations and facilitate workshops about: the benefits of higher education; your degree specialism; and your experience of studying at the University. These events are delivered either in person at schools/colleges, on campus or online. The role provides an opportunity to develop key sustainability skills, including understanding social impact, inclusive practice and contributing to positive change for students and communities.
Main duties include:
- Developing and delivering face to face presentations introducing young people to university and to your subject area, and supporting current students with academics, belonging, and student finance;
- Creating online presentations, for pre-recorded and live sessions, introducing young people to university and your subject areas, and supporting current students with academics, belonging, and student finance;
- Visiting a range of schools and colleges to inspire young learners, promoting progression to university and encouraging interest in your area of study;
- Supporting on campus and online events for school pupils and teachers interested in learning more about HE and your subject area;
- Chaperoning students and their teachers on taster events, higher education experience days, flagship events, social events, and hosting campus tours;
- Supporting with stands on campus and off campus to raise awareness of Student Success and outreach activity, including at UCAS events and fairs;
- Working in groups with young people and current students exploring all aspects of higher education and your subject specialism;
- Supporting on campus residential events, including summer schools;
- Sharing and supporting the collection of experiences at the university and feedback on support services through student voice mechanisms, including focus groups, Steering Groups, and Advisory Boards;
- Assisting in the preparation of resources and setting up of events;
- Working collaboratively with other Student Ambassadors and the Educational Engagement team;
- For Student Ambassadors working on Lifelong Learning Centre specific events and activities, work will include supporting at open days, selection days, welcome and social events - with a specific focus on mature, part-time and foundation-level learners;
- Providing general support for Educational Engagement as appropriate.
You will work alongside Educational Engagement teams to determine the most appropriate content to include in your sessions and the most suitable methods of delivery. Travel is required as part of the role and other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post.
